FAQ

Here are the most frequently asked questions about our community.

Membership + Registration

Membership + Registration

Why do I need to provide my ID to sign up?

We take the privacy of our members and safety of our community very seriously.

One of the top reasons women tell me they don't get out and participate in outdoor adventures like hiking is because they have fears surrounding their safety, including meeting strangers on the trail. By keeping our events private and details hidden behind a membership wall, we can ensure only women who have verified their identities have access to our events. This way, the general public does not know when and where a group of women are meeting.

To become a registered member, you must submit a photo of yourself holding your government-issued photo ID next to your face. This way, we can match your face to your photo ID and accept your membership.

I'm not comfortable sending you my ID

I get it! All I need to see on your ID is your photo, name and sex. You may cover all sensitive information like your address, driver's license number, passport number, etc.

Note that your submission is not saved on any personal devices, and is deleted off our servers after your membership request has been processed.

Unfortunately, if you're still uncomfortable with sending your ID, we will not be able to accept your membership request.

Do you have members in <insert location>?

We have members all over North America, and small but growing communities in Europe and Australia! Women in the Wild started as a small community in British Columbia, Canada, and after 3 years we've grown to over 100,000 all over the world.

The thing is though, if everyone waited for *someone else* in their area to join first, this community would never grow!

We have the typical "hot spots" like BC, WA, CA, CO, NY, etc. and chances are, there's someone at least within a state/province or two away, maybe even within an hour or two. So join the community and get into the group chats. When you connect with other members near you, you can work together to organize and host free community events, which will bring in more members near you!

I signed up, why can't I log in or reset my password?

Your membership hasn't been approved yet. You will receive a welcome email when your membership has been approved.

How long does it take for memberships to be processed?

I, Trish, am the only person managing membership requests. Sometimes I'm able to process them every evening, sometimes it takes 3-4 days.

If it's been over a week and you haven't received a welcome email/can't sign in, it means your membership request wasn't submitted properly. I'll be honest, I don't know why this happens, but about 1 in every 50 membership requests manage to be submitted incorrectly and, unfortunately, I don't get any sort of notifications about it. Please try to sign up again, and if it doesn't work, then send me an email to:
hello@womeninthewild.net

What is the average age of the members?

Our members range from 20-72, and that's just what I know of - there may be women who are even younger or more mature.

The average age tends to be 30-50.

Do you have any age restrictions?

Women of any age may join our community and participate in the chats, however women must be 18+ to join events and travel with us, unless otherwise specified.

What if I've never hiked/climbed/etc. before? Can I still join?

Absolutely! Women in the Wild was created to bring adventurous women together, remove barriers to outdoor activities, and support each other in our development and growth.

It is up to you to decide which events are the right fit for you in regards to difficulty levels, but there are opportunities for women of all experience and skill levels to join and create events.

Events

Events

Are there any events in <insert location>?

Maybe! And if there isn't, create one!

This community is run by one person (me, Trish, hi!), and I live in BC Canada. I also work a full time job in forestry before coming home to work on WitW after-hours and on the weekends. I simply can't be everywhere, or plan events all over the world - that's up to you, our members.

We do have 15 ambassadors across North America and they host several free events per year, but members are encouraged to organize and host free events as well.

Also, I will not share information about our events publicly.

Where can I find a listing of upcoming events?

Registered members can see our upcoming events on this page.

On your mobile:

Community Trips

Community Trips

Is there a minimum age, or age limit?

Members who choose to travel with us must be 18+

There is no maximum age, however it is up to your discretion to decide if a particular trip is right for you and your physical fitness level.

Where can I find a listing of upcoming trips?

You can find information on our upcoming trips on our International Trips page.

Are all trips double occupancy in accommodations? Is there an option for single occupancy? Can I choose my roommate?

Most, but not all, trips are priced as double occupancy.

Our Yoga and Wellness retreats are single occupancy, and for most of our trips there is an option upon sign-up to pay extra to have single occupancy accommodations.

If you are travelling with someone, we will automatically pair you together. If you are travelling solo, we do our best to pair women together that we think would be a good fit together.

Are there any co-ed trips?

Occasionally, we host co-ed trips. However, these trips are not open to the general public - men can not come on their own.

On co-ed trips, men must be invited by a Women in the Wild member and typically, this can only be her boyfriend/husband. To remain aligned with our principles of maintaining a safe environment for all our members, you may not bring a friend/cousin/brother/father/son etc. unless otherwise stated.

I have dietary restrictions, will you be able to accommodate?

Every trip is different, but for the most part, yes!

There will be opportunity for you to state your food preferences and restrictions during the sign-up process. We make every effort possible to ensure anyone with restrictions is accommodated for!

I don't want to share a room/tent, can I pay to have single accommodations?

Most of the time, yes! Occasionally there are trips that we can not accommodate single occupancy, but most of the time we can. Single occupancy supplements are limited, so securing your spot early is your best chance at having the option of single occupancy.
